Variations on Healing: 5 Acts of Kindness

April 11, 2024 – April 14, 2024

For EXPO Chicago 2024, Variations on Healing: 5 Acts of Kindness invites the public to choose among 5 different types of relational experiences that provide healing through a concentrated time, space and connection with an artist. Curatorial concierges consult with audience members to help choose among artists and healing modalities.

Moon Readings by Rebecca Beachy – Since the moon influences large bodies of water like the oceans, this reading with personalized drawing, reveals the moon's influence on you at the time of your birth and now.

Embroidered Touch by Anke Loh enables the visitor to create an individual sensory experience using sound and touch. Insulated wires embroidered on the textiles in a grid pattern sense the visitor’s touch. Sound files of field recordings from urban spaces and nature walks, plus recorded string and percussion instruments respond to touch. The wires function as touch sensors that elicit soothing sounds. Visitors are invited to wander through sound and touch to create an individual soundscape for a healing sensation.

Energy Prescriptions by Rhonda Wheatley ask, “What do you want to manifest? What changes would you like to make in your personal life and the world around you?” Together you’ll use oracle cards, crystals, and intuition to come up with your Energy Prescription, a unique-to-you path to create the change you seek.

Fortune Telling by Ji Yang invites you to pose a question. Using Chinese fortune sticks that you shake and choose from - an ancient Chinese practice - Ji Yang interprets answers from the sticks.

Mutual Agreements by Dennissa Young – With another person, you work through an agreement that amplifies connections, friendship and collaborating. Through the process, Denissa strives to foster intimacy, radical softness, capturing the spiritual journey of humanity.

We support emerging and established local and international artists to create innovative, multidisciplinary work that connects artists and audiences in transformative ways. As a nimble lab for incubating, modeling, and experimenting, we leverage new ways of connecting artists and audiences to advance and sustain artists and Illinois’ creative ecosystem.
