Working Studio
Saturday, August 9

2-5 PM
We invite you to enter into the portal with Katrin and Tria for a hands-on sewing bee and discussion. This work session adds plastic materials to the Underworld side of the portal and organic materials to the Upperworld side of the portal. While embellishing, we discuss the meaning and materiality of the installation. Can your hand feel the difference between polyester and nylon? Acetate and 100% cotton? Viscose and Silk?
Shape the Antidote: A Performance Activation
Sunday, August 10

2-5 PM
Part 1: ARE WE BUILDING HELL ON EARTH?
Work with Tria to add to the Underworld portal as Katrin leads a discussion about the race to make consumable goods increasingly cheap, and how replacing natural materials with plastic from fossil fuels is leading us to bury our bodies and our earth in plastic.
Part 2: WHAT IS THE ANTIDOTE?
Step through to the organic side of the portal. Join Katrin to stitch pods to the hem while we ask the questions: What are some solutions and cures? What actions do you take to create the antidote?
Part 3: LULLABY EXCHANGE
We then move into the Nursery at the end of the portal – a cozy nest of beds, blankets, and lamps – and close with a lullaby exchange. Everyone is invited to sing a lullaby. It can be a lullaby sung to you, a lullaby you sang to someone else, or a lullaby you long for.
